Backwater's SWOMP lineup has been designed to run faster, shallower, and handle easier than any other motor in their class. This is achieved by a combination of features exclusive to Backwater.
BACKWATER SWOMP 23 HP
The SWOMP 23 is a great all-around motor that's economical and easy to handle, yet provides some serious power to get you moving in tough conditions. If you are interested the SWOMP 23 long tail mud motor, contact us today.

The standard Versa-mount transom mount includes various features such as a trim adjustment pin for controlling prop depth, a 360-degree swivel with safety locks, and inboard/outboard mounting capabilities for weight distribution adjustment. Transitioning from outboard to inboard moves the propeller to undisturbed water, while outboard mounting enables sharper turns. It's the lowest riding transom mount with swivel capability, matching angles from 0 to 16 degrees. Its level swivel surface ensures proper prop depth adjustments and prevents motor tilting during turns.

The SWOMP: Achieving excellence in Performance, Toughness and Reliability
In the few years since we created the new SWOMP motor series design, it has become known by many as best longtail you can buy. Using a combination of DOM tubing and a CNC'd aluminum bell housing, we have been able to increase performance while reducing the complexity that makes other designs vulnerable.
Most traditional longtails use a universal joint to connect the engine output shaft to the propeller drive shaft. Sure, u-joints are pretty tough to break. But wanna know what's even tougher? Having no u-joint to break at all. Inside of our bell housing the engine output shaft is connected to the propeller drive shaft with a straight, high horsepower single split clamping coupler. In addition to being incredibly durable, this design also eliminates the parasitic power loss experienced by u-joint longtails.
Another key to our performance is the SWOMP frame geometry. By pivoting off the bellhousing and lowering the angle of the prop entering the water we achieve better directional power transfer and more speed. Pivoting off the bell housing also has the benefit of effectively increasing the handle length. This gives the driver more controlled leverage and makes the SWOMP even easier to drive. The final benefit of our design is that we've been able to reduce weight without any sacrifices.
To put it simply, Backwater motors are in a class of their own because we don't just strive for excellence — we achieve it.
